Data Ethics & Responsible AI Research Intern
Society Ethics Tech / Data x DirectionWork at the intersection of data science, ethics, and responsible AI through research, writing, and tool exploration. Two tracks available: Technical (tools, auditing, explainability) or Policy & Communication (frameworks, governance, science communication).
Learn more →Digital Narratives Research Intern
Futures Center / DigiNESTContribute to DigiNEST, JOPRO's reading and research group on digital narratives, emerging story technologies, and epistemic agency. Participate in weekly sessions and help develop the working paper in progress.
Learn more →AI for Human Flourishing: Preserving Agency and Cognitive Sovereignty
Society Ethics TechResearch the pressures that AI systems place on human agency, cognition, and self-determination. Investigate how AI-mediated environments shape reasoning, belief formation, and reflective capacity, and what it would take to design systems that preserve cognitive sovereignty.
Learn more →Diverse Intelligences: Navigation of Physical and Epistemological Spaces
Cognition FuturesContribute to a paper series on how navigation, understood broadly, operates across biological and artificial systems. The project investigates spatial cognition, affordance perception, and epistemic orientation as expressions of a shared computational architecture, with implications for comparing diverse intelligences.
Learn more →FrontierMap: Research Intern
Futures Center / FrontierMapAssist with the development and documentation of the FrontierMap methodology for epistemic orientation in interdisciplinary research. Literature review, worked example development, and case study contribution.
Learn more →Mapping the Organizations Shaping Our Technological Future (AI Labs, Tech Evaluators, Governance, Ideologies)
Futures Center / Field Guide to the Futures EcosystemContribute to a systematic research effort mapping the organizations that shape how emerging technology develops and is governed: AI laboratories, safety and evaluation bodies, policy institutes, philanthropic funders, standards organizations, and the think tanks that connect them.
Learn more →Beyond Debates: Steelmanning the Problem Space
Futures CenterSupport the development of the SMSP methodology, a structured approach to defining and charitably representing problem spaces before formal debate. Annotated bibliography, workshop design, and pilot facilitation.
Learn more →Philosophy of Science Research Intern
Futures Center / Kuhn Update ProjectContribute to a research project examining whether classical models of scientific change still describe how fields actually develop. The work centers on modernizing Kuhnian and related frameworks for conditions that Kuhn himself never anticipated: accelerating discovery cycles, institutional capture, and the blurring of disciplinary boundaries.

Field Stewards Pilot
A pilot fellowship training researchers to become domain-specific "field stewards" using FrontierMap methodology. Fellows conduct supervised mapping exercises on domains of their choice, producing public-facing orientation resources. Requires a bachelor's degree plus a master's/PhD or 2+ years of post-bachelor's experience.
Incubation & Development
Incubation Program
JOPRO supports emerging research projects through structured incubation. From ideation to execution, we help researchers and builders develop ambitious initiatives. If you have a project idea that aligns with JOPRO's mission, reach out.
2026 Update: Incubator submissions are currently filled, the next round of openings will be announced in May 2026.
Mentorship & Professional Development
Participants across JOPRO programs have access to reading groups, office hours, and peer feedback structures. These are integrated into the internship and fellowship experience rather than offered as standalone programs.
